My Name is Diana

In 1991, I was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. I have always been fortunate to have a lovely mom and an incredible dad. I also have lots of really cool aunts, uncles and primos.

San Luis Potosi is a charming colonial city; it is full of baroque art and cobblestone streets.

Ever since I was young, I started to like everything about my state – also named San Luis Potosi – and my country. My dad bought me many books about Mexican history. I still like to read about it and many other subjects. Reading is one of my hobbies.

When I was nine years old, I had the opportunity to come to the U.S.A. This has been one of the best experiences of my life. From the moment I arrived, I saw many new things and have enjoyed learning about a vast array of cultures. I have definitely fallen in love with the American life style. One of the first things I noticed was peoples’ styles of clothing.

I didn’t have any English classes until middle school, but it was so basic that I didn’t learn very much, so I started to study on my own with books, listening to music, and watching movies. Before long, I started to learn.

When I return to San Luis Potosi, I will have a new perspective about life. I will continue to work hard to improve my English because it will help me in my future.

Lately, I started attending two conversation circles and they are helping me very much. I am learning new vocabulary and I am starting to have more confidence in my ability to communicate with others.

When I return home in September, I will receive a degree in engineering. Then I will be an intern at an automotive company. Next year, I plan to work for a big company. While working, I would like to get a doctorate. The better my English is, the better my chances of getting a really good job.

I love the U.S. and I really appreciate all the opportunities this county provides. I might move here in the future, but now l long to return to San Luis Potosi!
