We Love Desserts

I’m crazy about desserts! Cookies, cakes, chickpeas, and my favorite, jalebi! Brides finders, crunchy sweet and mouthwatering cookies. I like all kind of cakes, but my favorite is dark chocolate layered cake, with white cream and sugary juice in between. Sweet crunchy, sugar coated chickpeas brings back childhood memories. Golden, sweet, juicy, flaky, my favorite; jalebi.

My mom also enjoys jalebi and sugar coated almonds. The ones we had in Afghanistan are the best. My youngest sister also likes desserts. When I visit her, I bake her favorite homemade Afghan cookies and jalebi. My daughter likes apple pie. I tried to bake it, but it didn’t turn out right. On Thanksgiving Day, we go to the supermarket to buy her favorite apple pie.

Homemade Jalebi

Batter:

1 cup flour½ cup warm water

¼ tbsp yeast

1 tbsp oil

1 tbsp milk

¼ tsp orange food coloring

Pinch of salt

Sugar Juice:

1 cup water

1 cup sugar

1 cup oil for frying

Boil 1 cup water. Pour in sugar. Once it thickens into syrup, take it off the burner.

Mix flour, warm water, yeast, oil, milk, food coloring and salt in medium sized bowl. Mix until pancake batter consistency. Cover with a towel and let sit for 1½ hours. Put inside icing tube. Put 1 cup oil in pan. Put on burner on medium heat. When oil is hot, squeeze tube in circle. Leave it one minute then flip. Take out of oil and into sugar juice for 30 seconds. Take out of juice then set on plate. Enjoy!
