Welcome to Literacy Plus!

Studies indicate that 1 in 5 adults in the United States lack the literacy skills to function effectively.  They can't read the newspaper or stories to their children.  They can’t write letters, checks, or fill out applications.  They very often can't find or keep jobs.  Every day, doors are closed to them.  But they can learn and improving their reading skills can change their lives.  Although basic funding for Literacy Plus is provided through the City of Hayward, additional contributions from individuals, businesses, foundations, and grants enable us to maintain the activities needed to help as many people as possible overcome the crippling barrier of low literacy.

Hayward Literacy Plus offers various programs that promote literacy, including one-on-one tutoring, family learning through our Families for Literacy and Early Learning for Families Programs, Computer classes, English Conversation Circles, and more.
